Hilary Davies, Mixed-Media Artist
I have been drawing and painting for a number of years whilst working part-time as a primary school teacher. Inspiration has come from several tutors in adult and further education classes and the Open College of the Arts.
Until recently my work has been figurative with a strong interest in colour. Now I work in a more abstract way, usually in acrylics. I love the versatility of this medium. Allowing the paint to flow and dribble I have been led by the material itself as it takes on a life form of its own. It is an exciting process as images appear from the paint in conjunction with my thoughts.
I am now interested in letting the medium do the work as I explore ideas on pathways in life, directions and emotional states. I am fascinated by the way different aspects of life overlap, interweave, connect and disconnect and are part of the whole. These thoughts are central to the underlying force of my painting.
I look forward, as I work in a new space, to seeing how other media can help me produce new images.
